Seco expands Steadyline® vibration damping system with boring bars
As the use of long overhang tools becomes increasingly popular throughout the manufacturing industry, Seco has expanded its patented line of Steadyline® damping tools include boring heads.
The highly rigid and stable Steadyline® system effectively reduces unwanted vibrations in extreme cutting conditions via a “dynamic passive system” inside the holder body where a damping mass counter vibrates against the first flex vibration. As such, these products can perform typical long overhang operations twice as fast as traditional tools, reduce spindle stress as well as offer high metal-removal rates, smooth part surface finishes and long tool life.
Steadyline® is available in 6xD, 8xD and 10xD bar sizes and a range of types, including cylindrical shanks, Seco-CaptoTM or HSK-T/A machine side connections. The system also features compact boring heads with a GL or BA connection for roughing from ø36 to 116 mm, and finishing from ø 34 to 115 mm. Furthermore, both the bars and the heads feature coolant supply channels for enhanced chip removal.
The highly precise GL connection also allows users to reduce preparation times via fast, simple mounting and setting procedures. This is made possible by its strong, fast locking capability via a single integrated clamping ring that draws in the tool head for a secure, stable taper-face contact. When it comes to static, turning operations, the connection has a polylobe taper interface with two 180-degree positions that orients the tool’s cutting edge either face up or face down for effective chip control.
