The government of Maharashtra state in India has given a final nod to the construction of a hyperloop link between India’s financial capital Mumbai and the city of Pune, which is 200 kilometres away. The project consortium of DP World, Virgin Hyperloop One and Maharashtra state aim to establish the first commercialscale hyperloop transportation system in the world.
A hyperloop is an ultra-high-speed ground transportation system, akin to bullet trains. The Mumbai to Pune hyperloop is expected to slash the 3.5-hour travel time between the two cities to 35 minutes. The hyperloop concept consists of a magnetically-propelled capsule that carries passengers or cargo through a low-pressure tube at over 1,000 kilometres per hour.
